Letter to Church 03/31/20

March 31, 2020

Precious Church,

Less than a month ago we were living in a country with an economy that was humming at a fever pitch. March Madness and “bracketology” dominated the sports scene. Easter with its egg hunts, choir musicals, and special services loomed before us.  The primary election season was heating up. Then, someone slammed on the brakes! SCREEEEEEECH! All stop! Can you believe that a virus has humbled and stopped life as we know it in the United States of America?

I am reminded that God’s word says, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling,” (Proverbs 16:18,NASB). “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble, (James 4:6b, NASB). Pride has been a besetting sin of our country for a long time. We hear it in our politicians. We see it on display with our armed forces. We even witness it in pulpits, mega church and mini church alike.

God used a virus that can’t be seen with a physical eye to bring us to our knees. What are we to do? God told Solomon what to do about three thousand years ago. “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land,” (2 Chronicles 7:14, KJV).

Pray for me this week! I feel that I must preach this passage this weekend. Once again, it will be streamed live on Facebook Live at 10:15 Sunday morning, April 5. Go to the CFBC Live page to watch and pray with me.

I have had to make another difficult decision about our church family. We will discontinue all in-person church services and activities until April 30 as the President and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have asked of us. I don’t like missing church. I miss you! I want to see you, but I want to see you alive and healthy, not the opposite. We will continue our streaming schedule. Also, some of our classes may try meeting via the internet “Zoom” portal. Please continue to check on one another. Our staff is still available to help you. Just give us a call, shoot us a text, or send us an email.

Did you hear about Brooklyn Landry’s profession of faith in Jesus Christ? We’re excited about that! We have three children awaiting baptism. We will go forward with those who wish to do so. We’ll post them on line when we do. I know that’s different from the way we’ve always done it, but we are charting new waters in this day!

Pray for us, as we pray for you!
